Taken To School Via “The Path of Rest”

by Dave on August 29, 2006

I have been very fortunate the past several years in order to gain the superb training experience with Jamen Zacharias.

JamenIt has been a wonderful bounty for me to be in his presence when we have been able to train and talk and his current teachings are an amazing value. We have been studying the “Path of Rest” through some methods of locks and effective dancing. I call it dance because you can do as you feel.

The philosophies behind Jamen’s arts are astounding and I could only scratch the surface while not doing them justice. I hope to air more of his own writings and thoughts as they become available in full or in part.

The key for myself and my own focus is that each motion drives to the very root of what its intentions are. Hopefully without badly paraphrasing Jamen, the foundation and function of most everything has preceded its form. To add my own, the typical tai chi in the park is form in the park. But tai chi has a function which cannot be fully explored through the form alone.

I invite those who have trained in similar philosophies and arts to get in touch here or on friendster, hi5 or myspace via gomeraine@hotmail.com. It is an amazing community and I would find it nothing but a benefit to better from your experience.

    Hello Friends!

Here is a little info regarding the ‘core precepts’ or centre of the system that is Path of Rest.

There are essentially 3 vital aspects to be considered and carried out throughout ones entire experience of the Path of Rest curriculum.

    1) The Ideal Internal State

    2) The Transcendence of Primitive Impulses.

    3) Implementaion of the Movement to Momentum Formula.

An Ideal internal state can comsist of such relvant qualities as:

    a) Bodily Calm
    b) Composure of Mind and Heart
    c) Proper Perception

The transcendence of primitive impulses can essentially mean lot of things, from physical instincts that arise inappropriately, to the manifestations of the Insistent Self of ego. The ego can manifest itself in behaviours such as:

    1) Quarrelling
    2) Dueling
    3) Retaliation
    4) Vengence

These behaviours manifest themselves from other root states that we should learn to avoid, such as:
    1) Fear
    2) Desire
    3) Competitiveness

The Movement To Momentum Formula is essentially a use of basic physics over brute or raw force.

To properly implement this formula demands one control there lower bodily impulses in favor of the sciences involved in creating and utilizing momentum.

This formula requires we create or compliment movement and the existing directions of force. It is this formula that provides the means for attaining and perfecting the ability to use force effortlessly.

    More to come,

    In Peace and fellowship!
