Today was the Annual General Meeting that kicked off the Georgia Strait Alliances‘s twenty-first year and I’ve had the good fortune to be recommended for and elected to its Board of Directors.
I’m very excited about this opportunity on a number of different levels. The Board, leadership and staff that I’ve come to meet over the past few weeks all seem like good, committed people who are focused on working together to fulfil the mission of the organization:
To protect and restore the marine environment and promote the sustainability of Georgia Strait, its adjoining waters and communities.
The members I met today were engaged and as committed as those involved in the strategy and day-to-day of Georgia Strait Alliance. It was a fantastic experience.

As a CMA, I will be adding some additional accounting expertise to the Board, which is great, but I am excited to jump with both feet into an area of sustainability and conservation I’ve never been in before. Between the people and the nature of the organization’s work, I’m very much looking forward to the experience and the education that’ll come with it.
