About Dave
Cycling Hawaii - 2009
Welcome to davemacdonald.ca. This site is dedicated to my activities, both professional and personal, but hopefully interesting in any event.
Professionally, I’m a Vancouver-based Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and principal at Yupana Consulting. I help small businesses, startups and non-profits become sustainable – that is, do what they’re good at, what’s in line with their values and keep making money at it. I use a Business Model Canvas tool, among others, to help owners, managers and directors get more clarity about their work. It’s awesome – if you own or operate any organization you should try it. Contact Me Here about that.
I joined one of my clients, REACH Community Health Centre, as their Operations Manager in October 2011 where I spend 4 days per week. It’s a very special organization for it’s age (it was founded in 1969), culture and community contributions. I’m not sure I’ll ever leave, really.
I sold my car in 2009 to try out life on transit and my bicycle. I am a student of good things for the environment with a lot of distance to cover before I’m where I’d like to be in my lifestyle, though. Part of it is that I feel infinitely constrained and my journey in that are is something you’ll see on this blog.
I like to cook and have adopted Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking as my staple book to start from. I never follow a recipe, but I like to see what works.
I’m a martial artist studying Filipino Stick Fighting for a decade under Senior Full Instructor Jamen Zacharias. I will never profess to be a master, but the journey in learning is inspirational every day and I’m grateful for my peers and students who have given me the opportunity to share that journey with them. The universal aspects of martial arts that I’ve applied in my business and personal life also often apply here.
